The UIDAI is very much in trend nowadays and mainly after the TRAI Chief’s details were put on public platform by a French Hacker Elliot Alderson. TRAI Chief has challenged if anyone can do any harm just by using his Aadhaar number which he himself shared publicly on his twitter account. French Hacker told that there is a security loophole in the official Aadhaar app and he managed to get access to RS Sharma’s personal details. After all this story, a new story has come up in trend nowadays.
After French hacker tweeted @UIDAI that their helpline number is present in smartphones automatically and asked how this is possible and asked for an explanation from UIDAI. Twitter then got flooded with Android users’ tweets saying that yes they too have UIDAI helpline number saved on their phone.
Well, UIDAI officially tweeted that they don’t have any role in this and they never contacted any telecom operator to push this number in smartphones. UIDAI also said that the number 1800-300-1947 is invalid and outdated. You can yourself check the validity of the UIDAI helpline number 1800-300-1947 saved on your phone. Just try to call the number once, you will notice that the number is incorrect and is not working. Soon after all this story was going Google released an official statement claiming that they are behind all this and took the blame for UIDAI number in contact list.
“Our internal review has revealed that in 2014, the then UIDAI helpline number and the 112 distress helpline number were inadvertently coded into the SetUp wizard of the Android release given to OEMs for use in India and has remained there since. Since the numbers get listed on a user’s contact list these get transferred accordingly to the contacts on any new device,” a statement from Google said.
UIDAI number is saved on most of the smartphone users because maximum of the population prefer to use Android smartphone. Even if you don’t have an Aadhaar Card you can find the number 1800-300-1947 saved on your android mobile phone.
Google also said that it was an issue from their end and they assured that they will resolve this issue in the next update. Having a helpline number in phone is good but the problem is that this Adhaar UIDAI number is invalid and it is not working anymore. Earlier Airtel and Vodafone were also asked if they have any connection with the UIDAI number saved on Android mobile phones but they denied their role. Now it has been confirmed that their is nothing to worry about your security and privacy as it was just an issue from Google’s end for which Google has officially said Sorry!
