Windows 11 24H2 Update Paused
Microsoft has once again halted the Windows 11 24H2 update rollout because of compatibility problems with USB-connected devices that support the eScanner Communication Language (eSCL) scan protocol.
The Redmond giant claims that users with Windows 11 version 24H2 may experience issues with standalone scanners and multifunction gadgets that use the eSCL scan protocol and are linked to USB. According to the company, impacted devices might not detect or finish the discovery process, affecting the degree to which they function.

“A driverless scanning protocol called “eSCL” was created for networked scanners. It makes driverless scanning possible via USB connections and networks like Ethernet and Wi-Fi.”
Microsoft stated on its Windows health status help page on Friday that “the problem arises when the device does not convert from eSCL mode to USB mode, which enables the scanner drivers to match.”
Microsoft has placed devices linked to USB devices that use the eSCL scan protocol on hold to protect consumers’ update experiences. As a result, Windows 11, version 24H2, will not be released to these devices via the Windows Update release channel until the issue is resolved.

According to the company, this safeguard is not limited to scanners but also applies to other devices that use the eSCL protocol, including network devices, printers, fax machines, and modems.
Furthermore, until the issue has been fixed, Microsoft advises users not to manually try updating to version 24H2 using the media creation tool or the Windows 11 Installation Assistant.

The company is working on a solution but does not currently have a workaround for this problem. When additional information becomes available, it is anticipated to provide it. The only way for consumers who want to fix this problem right away is to downgrade from Windows 11, version 24H2, to version 23H2, which will guarantee that their printers, scanners, and other eSCL-enabled devices continue to operate properly.
